Literature Text

The world is bleak,
And colored only in
Stains of gray.

It wasn't this way before,
but without you,
All I can see is this bleak,
Cynical world.

Our hearts had intertwined,
And our emotions were connected deeply.
With you,
I felt I could always be happy.

Though my world was always gray,
You had been the one to light it with vivid reflections of color.

The box in my pocket,
It's tiny, but it feels so heavy.
My tears won't cease their flow.

I had wanted to spend my life with you,
But you were gone before I could say anything.

Standing here in the rain,
The world looks as bleak as it ever has,
But at least it conceals my tears.

When I start to the house,
I swear I see something strangely familiar.

A figure of white,
But there is something warm in that familiar expression.
A soft reassurance,
From the one I thought I'd never see.

Our hands connect for the final time,
And we dance in this bleak, silver rain,
But to me, it's so bright,
Until you leave my side.

My tears are falling more than they ever had,
A bittersweet pain...
A very late request for a friend's ( :iconsuper1ucy: ) birthday. She asked for something a little sad. I'd been thinking on this one for awhile, and just couldn't pull an idea. Finally, this came. It seems a little song-like almost, maybe because of the music I was listening to?

Well, the plot for this one ought to be conveyed simply enough, but in case someone doesn't get it:

The narrator is a cynical individual who never seemed to be happy with the world around them. When they fell in love, their beloved began to show them the brighter things they had always taken for granted, and they began to open up. However, their loved one dies shortly before the narrator could work up to courage to propose to them. This leaves them broken and they retreat back and shut down again. Seeing this, the spirit of their beloved returns briefly in an effort to comfort and reassure them. The story closes with the narrator heartbroken, but understanding their loved one's final message...
